UTF-8 Oriya

The Oriya script (better known as the Odia script) is an abugida for writing the Odia language spoken in the Indian state of Odisha, as well as for Sanskrit and several regional tribal languages.

It derives from the Brahmi script, and developed its distinct rounded form around the 13th century CE.

Each consonant carries an inherent vowel (a), and other vowels are expressed through diacritics that can appear in various positions around the consonant.

The letters are rounded and looping, a result of writing on palm leaves, where straight lines could cut or tear the surface.
