Gujarati is a Indo-Aryan language spoken by about 57 million people, primarily in the Indian state of Gujarat, where it is the official language, and by a large minority in Mumbai (Bombay), as well as by Gujarati emigrants in Karachi (Pakistan) and in South and East Africa.

Gujarati is written in a separate script that closely resembles the Hindi script Devanagari, but lacks the characteristic horizontal stroke above the letters.
