UTF-8 Latin Extended C

Latin Extended C was added in Unicode 5.0 (2006) to expand Latin support for specialized phonetic use, historic orthographies, and minor linguistic needs not covered by previous Latin blocks (A and B):

  • Additional letters with special hooks, strokes, or other modifications.
  • Support for historic or regional Latin alphabets (Old Irish, African reference alphabets, and medieval transliterations)
  • A few phonetic and epigraphic symbols

These are not common in modern European languages, but useful for linguistic, academic, or scholarly work.
